Blake Griffin, and after tonight Jodie Meeks. Before tonight I knew that Jodie Meeks of Kentucky was one of the best guards in the country, but goodness. Tonight Meeks scored 54 points against Tennessee, at Tennessee. The point total is eye popping, but his shooting percentage was just ridiculous. Meeks shot 15-22 from the field, 10-14 from the three point line, and 14-14 from the foul line. In this day of high scoring college shot chuckers (A.J. Abrams and Stephen Curry) this performance is extremely rare. However, this isn't so rare for Meeks who is shooting an impressive 46% from the field this season, while averaging 25 points per game. His shot selection was impeccable, and continued to hit demoralizing shots that prevented Tennessee from making any real runs. This is a very short entry, but just had to write about this phenomenal game. And I am stating that the race for national player of the year is between Blake "Double-Double every freakin night" Griffin, and Jodie Meeks. Stephen Curry is supremely talented but is pressing this season. Last year he came to fame in one of the best NCAA Tournaments ever, and it looks like he is really trying too hard this season to be "the man". Curry's scoring hasn't really trailed off but, his shooting percentage has looked mighty pedestrian against some of the country's top teams, while annihilating his Southern Conference competition. Curry went 5 for 26 with 6 turnovers against Purdue and 10 for 22 (1 for 8 from three) with 7 turnovers against second ranked Duke. True, Curry is not surrounded with as much talent as Griffin or Meeks, but he still needs more polishing in the shot selection area.
